A new language can be learned in a classroom or from a book, but mastery of that language can only come when you use it to communicate. In the same way mastery of a musical instrument doesn’t proceed solely from practice and instruction; the musician needs to interact musically with others, and it’s through this musical communication with other musicians and audiences that musical skill advances.
